May 10, 2005
NORFOLK, Va. -- Four-time Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year and former Old Dominion All-American Nataly (Cahana) Fleishman, is currently ranked #1 in the Mid-Atlantic in the newly released women's 2004 singles rankings published by the Mid-Atlantic/USTA section and tops the list in the Virginia rankings as well in both singles and doubles.
Fleishman, currently the Norfolk Yacht Head Tennis Professional, was the ITA East Region Senior Player of the Year in 2004 and compiled a career singles record of 143-28 as one of the most prolific Lady Monarchs in women's tennis history. She was the first ever Division I tennis student-athlete to earn All-America honors and was the first CAA women's tennis player to earn four Player of the Year distinctions.
Back in August, Fleishman captured the 2004 SunTrust Tennis Championships at Raintree Swin and Racquet Club in Richmond.
During her senior campaign in the 2003-04 academic year, she ranked 30th nationally by the ITA, reached the second round of the NCAA Singles Championships, and won the ITA East Regional.
Away from the court she was a four-time academic honoree from the ITA, the CAA Scholar-Athlete winner for women's tennis for two seasons, and was named the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2004. The international business major made the CoSIDA Academic All-District squad in 2003 and was also a Virginia Academic All-State pick.
