June 4, 2004

NORFOLK, VA -Four Old Dominion University student athletes were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State Team, which was released Friday. Sports Information Directors from around the Commonwealth voted for the team. To be selected, a student athlete must obtain have a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must have reached sophomore standing, must have completed at least one full academic year at the school and must have participated in 50% of the team's games or events. Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) of women's tennis was named to the first team, men's soccer's Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) was named to the second team, and field hockey's Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) and sailing's Anna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH) were named to the third team.

Nataly Cahana closes out her career as one of the most prolific women's tennis players in Old Dominion history. Four-time CAA Player of the Year and the ITA East Region Senior Player of the Year, Cahana advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament and compiled a 30-8 singles record and 17-10 doubles mark in 2004. Cahana, ranked 34th in the final ITA Poll, was making her third appearance in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament after qualifying for the tournament all four years of her career.

Attila Vendegh, who now plays for the Atlanta Silverbacks of the A-League, ended his stellar ODU career as the school's all-time scoring leader, finishing with 56 goals, 22 assists and 134 points. In 2003, Vendegh was once again the team scoring leader with 10 goals, six assists and 26 points, in helping lead the men's soccer team to their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Second Round.

Angie Loy, who led the Monarchs to an eighth consecutive CAA title and 23rd consecutive bid to the national tournament, earned first-team All-American honors from both the NFHCA and womensfieldhockey.com for the second consecutive season. Loy, the CAA Player of the Year and CAA Tournament MVP, ranked second nationally with 69 points, 2.875 points per game, and 21 assists. Additionally, she became the third Lady Monarchs to be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad all four years of her career. Loy is currently a member of the US Field Hockey National Team.

Anna Tunnicliffe, the Quantum Award finalist for 2003-04, given to college sailing's top female sailor, made history last November, when she became the first sailor ever to win back-to-back ICSA Women's Singlehanded National Championships. Tunnicliffe once again had an impressive season, helping the sailing team win its 14th national championship and leading the Lady Monarchs to an 11th place showing at the ICSA Women's National Championship last month.
