PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Senior and second seeded Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) advanced to the semifinals of the singles bracket at the seventh annual Cissie Leary Invite held at Levy Courts on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.


 

Cahana received a first round bye and went on to collect her first win of the season with a three set decision over Ana Maslessa of Temple, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. She followed with a straight set, 6-2, 6-3 win over UPenn's Rachel Shweky and a three set, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, victory over seventh seeded Eric Valdes of Tulane in the quarterfinals. Cahana's run was stopped by fourth seeded Courtney Bergman of Harvard, 6-1, 6-1.

Newcomer Fernada Luiz (Nova Lima, Brazil) and sophomore Kerstin Endlich (Neustadt, Germany) each advanced to the second round of play. Luiz earned a 6-1, 7-5 win over Penn State's Sarah Spence before falling to Danira Penic of Temple, 6-3, 6-1. Endlich opened her season with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Minnesota's Nischela Reddy before dropping a 7-6 (6), 6-3 match to Princeton's Stephanie Berg.

The Lady Monarchs will return to action at the ITA All-American Championships in California. The prequalifier begins on October 4th.
