Old Point National Bank ITA Invite Results From Day One

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The Old Dominion men's and women's tennis teams had a trio of athletes advance to the quarterfinals in singles action in the first day of competition at the Old Point National Bank ITA Invitational held at the Huntington Park Tennis Courts. Seniors Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel), Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania), and Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania) each reached the quarters in their respective brackets. Cahana defeated Nandita Chandrasekar of N.C. State, 6-2, 7-5, after receiving a first round bye in Flight A-1 women's singles. Csanadi defeated a pair of CAA opponents to reach his quarterfinal match. He downed George Mason's Tim Bainton, 6-0, 6-1, and then went on to defeat Colin O'Brien of William and Mary, 6-2, 6-2 in Flight A action of men's singles. In Flight B men's singles, Milos won his two matches of the day to proceed to the quarters with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Martin Roehricht of James Madison followed by a 6-1, 6-1 victory over R.J. Murray of N.C. State.
Other opening day winners included senior Niklas Oskarsson (Halmsted, Sweden). Oskarsson defeated Georgetown's Eric Conrad, 6-1, 6-1, in the opening round before falling in the Round of 16 against David Donn of Richmond, 6-3, 6-1. The Old Point National Bank ITA Invitational will continue tomorrow and Sunday. The Tournament features over 300 student-athletes and 24 brackets.
