
ARTICLE I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the "University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill Star Wars Club." (Henceforth referred to as "The Star
Wars Club" or "Club")
ARTICLE II. Affiliations
This organization is not affiliated with any other organization but
shall endeavor to work with any other Star Wars or community service club
if the opportunity arises.
ARTICLE III. Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of this club is to promote the principles and fun of Star
Wars within the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the surrounding
area and bring together individuals with an interest in Star Wars.
The objectives of this organization shall be:
a) to encourage Star Wars fans to increase their knowledge and enthusiasm about the movies, books, and other related items;
b) to keep members informed of the latest news regarding Star Wars and related material.
c) to develop friendships among the Star Wars Club members;
d) to promote interest in Star Wars within the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the surrounding community;
e) to provide opportunities for Star Wars collectors to showcase and exchange their collectibles;
ARTICLE IV. Membership
Section 1. Full membership and participation in the Star Wars Club shall be open to all registered students of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who are interested in Star Wars without regard to race, national origin, religion, sex, handicap, age, or veteran status.
Section 2. To become a member of the Star Wars Club, one must pass the following qualifications:
a) be a registered student of UNC-CH;
b) have a grade point average above 2.0;
c) pay annual membership fees;
d) sign a sheet indicating that he/she has read and understands
the Constitution of the Star
Wars Club;
ARTICLE V. Advisor
If a new advisor is needed for the Star Wars Club, any full-time member
of the faculty or staff of the UNC-CH or a person with faculty of staff
privileges of the UNC-CH with interest in the Star Wars Club shall be eligible
to join pending ratification by a majority of the officers or members present
at the next meeting.
ARTICLE VI. Meetings
Section 1. Formal meetings shall be held at least twice a year.
Section 2. Special event meetings are to be held at least once
a year. A meeting is
qualified as a special event if the meeting contains unusual entertainment
compared to
other meetings, requires considerable planning on the part of the officers,
and possibly
financing by the Club.
Section 3. Officer meetings are to be held at least twice a year. An officer meeting requires the attendance of only three officers, but normal members are allowed to attend.
Section 4. The time and date for the next meeting shall be announced at each meeting. For special meetings or changes regarding meetings, the officers shall email or call members.
Section 5. For a formal meeting to take place, two members and an officer must be present, but present executive board members may make the ultimate decision.
ARTICLE VII. Officers
Section 1. The Executive Board -- the following four positions
will make up the executive board:
a) President -- the President’s duties shall include, but not
be limited to assisting
the other officers, running the meetings,
filling out any necessary forms,
listening to complaints, acting as a representative
for the Star Wars Club if the
Vice President cannot, and striving to better
the Star Wars Club to the best of
his/her ability.
b) Vice President -- the Vice President’s duties shall include,
but not be limited
to assisting the other officers, fulfilling
an absent President’s duties,
representing the Star Wars Club in any
campus meeting of organizations, and
making sure the President completes
all of the presidential duties.
c) Secretary -- the Secretary’s duties shall include, but not
be limited to assisting
the President and other officers in their
duties, typing and mailing any
correspondence for the Star Wars Club if requested
to do so by the President,
keeping accurate membership listing including
a phone number, an address,
and an email address for each member, keeping records of attendance, making
any Star Wars Club rules available to members, and keeping necessary records
of activities and procedures.
d) Treasurer -- the Treasurer’s duties shall include, but not
be limited to, assisting
the other officers, fulfilling an absent
Secretary’s duties, collecting
membership dues, explaining expenditures and the current money balance
between each meeting, managing the Star Wars Club’s finances, and dispersing
funds as directed by the President and Club.
Section 2. In the event of a vacancy in any official position, it shall be fulfilled in the same manner as would be the case for a new year.
Section 3. Each position has the following prerequisites before
a member may become an officer:
a) A President must have been a member of the Star Wars Club
for a minimum of
one year, held at least one previous position
as an officer in the Star Wars
Club, and be elected.
b) A Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer must have been a
member of the
Star Wars Club for a minimum of one
year, and be elected.
Section 4. All of the Executive Board members are expected to cooperate whenever necessary to help the Star Wars Club. Organizing the first meetings each year and calling to let members know the Star Wars Club meeting times are both examples of times when cooperation may be used.
ARTICLE VIII. Elections
Section 1. The elected officers of the Star Wars Club are the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The term of office for all officers shall be one academic year, beginning at the start of the fall semester and ending with the close of the spring semester. An individual may serve more than one term.
Section 2. Meetings for elections of the officers shall be held within a time span of the final four weeks of classes at a time set by the outgoing Executive Board.
Section 3. Nominations for the election shall be taken from the floor at the election meeting. All full-time active members who will return to UNC-CH the following fall semester and meet the office requirements shall be eligible to hold any office.
Section 4. At the meeting in which the election is to be held, nominees will be given the opportunity to deliver a short speech.
Section 5. Each officer will be elected through secret ballot by a simple majority of the members present at the election meeting. In the event there is no majority, a run-off election between the two highest vote-getters will occur the following meeting.
Section 6. At no time shall co-officers be allowed to fill any
official position.
ARTICLE IX. Funds
Section 1. Allocation of money must be supported by a member of the Executive Board. The proposal must be introduced onto the floor by the President or Treasurer. The proposed shall be in effect if the majority of voting members vote in favor of the proposal.
Section 2. The Treasurer must report any changes in the Star Wars Club funds at each regular meeting.
ARTICLE X. Ratification
When the first Star Wars Club members sign that they have read and
understand the Constitution of the Star Wars Club, their signatures shall
be assumed to be the votes of approval for the Constitution of the Star
Wars Club.
ARTICLE XI. Amendments
An amendment must be presented to an officer. If supported by
an Executive Board member, the amendment is introduced directly to the
Executive Board. The Executive Board must approve an amendment by
a three-fourths majority. After passing the Executive Board, an amendment
is ratified if a two-thirds majority of the voting members vote in favor
of the amendment.
ARTICLE XII. Bylaws
Section 1. The bylaws of the Star Wars Club may be revised by
a majority vote of at least a majority of the active membership.
Section 2. Dues -- the Star Wars Club dues shall be three dollars for the entire year.
ARTICLE XIII. Parliamentary Procedures
The rules contained in the latest edition of Robert’s Rules of Order,
except when inconsistent with this Constitution and Bylaws, shall govern
the meetings of the Star Wars Club and the Executive Board.
